Welcome to the Spring 2010 AYSO season. Let’s play soccer!!
At the end of this season I will complete my term as the Region 149 Commissioner. It has been a wonderful experience and I’ve learned a lot about youth organizations, players, parents, volunteers, and so much more! I have had the great opportunity to serve with your board that spends a lot of time making sure that this program is ran correctly and in the best interest of all involved. The National AYSO office has a Regional Assessment Program that awards designations to regions that reach certain criteria in regards to operating the region within the national guidelines. I am very proud to announce that Region 149 has gained Silver Medal recognition. This is due to all of the volunteers putting in extra effort to do the right thing! It also validates the hard work that the board does to try and do everything the AYSO way. This is an outstanding accomplishment that we all should be proud of.
We have several openings on the board we are looking for:
- Team Parent Coordinator
- VIP (Very Important Person) Coordinator to start a program for our physically/mentally challenged players
- Boy’s Progressive Coordinator
- Concession’s Buyer
- Division Coordinator’s for both boys and girls
If you are interested in any of these positions, please stop by the Safety/Info tent, ask a board member any of your questions, and fill out an application.
Please remember that we are guests of the school district and that parking on the grass and/or any landscaping is not allowed during our soccer games. Also, we are not to have dogs at the fields, this is for both sanitary and safety reasons. Lastly, please remember this is an organization ran by volunteers for the enjoyment of your children. In the past few seasons we’ve had more and more complaints about parent’s behavior during and after the games. Let’s make it a goal to be positive and encouraging through the entire season.
Every child plays because we all volunteer! Here’s to a safe, fun season!

5-A-Side is back!
5-a-side soccer is back for the spring season. This is a 5 vs. 5 (with goal keepers) tournament style soccer format that will be held on Sunday May, 2 2010. The games are 15 minutes long (2 seven minute halves and a 1 minute half time) and are played on a half sized field. All ages U8 and up are able to participate in 5-a-side. Each team may have as few as 5 participants and one AYSO team (for example U14B Pilots) can form 2 separate 5-a-side teams. This day of soccer takes place throughout Sunday typically starting around 8:00am and ending around 4:00pm with each team having 4 games. The cost per team is $45 equating to about $6 per person. No scholarships are available(unless you develop your own scholarships within your team). We would require each team that registers to play to get a referee volunteer from their team to ref some games.
Scheduling of referees will be done the day after the game schedule is created and we will make sure to accommodate any request that made (ex: not refereeing during your child’s games). A referee for 5-a-side will typically referee 3-4 games back to back and then either be done or referee another block later in the day (if they volunteer to referee extra games).
When forming a team for 5-a-side, each team needs a volunteer coach registered through eAYSO. The coach for a team can be any of the following volunteers from the/a team…
- Coach
- Assistant Coach
- Team Parent
- Referee
We will need to line the soccer fields and set up for Sunday on Saturday after our regular soccer concludes. We will be asking team field volunteers to assist with this set up for about 1-2 hours on Saturday May 1, 2010.
Registration for 5-a-side will open on April, 10 2010 and will close on April 17, 2010. We are looking forward to a great spring 5-a-side this year!

Hi Coaches,
Spring season will be here before we know it! I have scheduled a Coaches meeting for Tuesday March 9 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Consumers Power located at 6990 SW West Hills Rd. They have a maximum capacity for the room we rented so it is important that I get a RSVP. If more than the maximum number of people are expected I will have to change the location, this would be a good thing! Pizza will be provided which is another reason to RSVP.
I have scheduled U6 and U8 training for Tuesday March 16 at Adams Gym from 6:30 to 8:30. If you have interest in training to teach classes please get in touch with me.
Spring season will begin the week following Spring break.
Limited registration has been completed. If you have not returned your roster no new players will be added to your team.
I am looking forward to seeing you at the Coaches meeting!
