For Teams

            Each team will be required to supply volunteers to help in the positions described    below. Players should have a volunteer representing them in order to play. The first six numbers indicates the priority jobs in order for your team to function. Fill those first with volunteers who are willing to do these jobs. Remaining volunteers need to select a job of their choice.

            Each team may have duplications of positions (i.e. two concession volunteers, two safety, four referees) as long as the first six jobs have been filled. Please check over the descriptions of each job. There is something for everybody on your team. Do not assign a person a job without verifying information with them.

1. COACH: This is an individual willing to take the responsibility for organizing a team, setting up parent meetings to identify AYSO and team philosophy in directing practices & games. Clinics are held to train coaches and their staff. Clinics will require 3 hours of training. See enclosed coaches letter for more information about time and place. This person must have Safe Haven certification. Safe Haven needs to be completed on line at www.aysotraining.org before the coaches meeting Sept. 5, 2006.

2. ASSISTANT COACH: Individual(s) willing to take responsibility for assisting the coach in carrying out AYSO and team philosophy, practices and game leadership. Assistant coaches are will attend training clinics and certification courses. Other volunteers are encouraged to attend practices to help as directed by the coaching staff. Safe Haven certification is required. Safe Haven needs to be completed on line at www.aysotraining.org before the coaches meeting Sept. 5, 2006.

3. REFEREE: (2 REQUIRED, BUT UNLIMITED NUMBER NEEDED) Individuals need to be available as a referee/assistant referee for game assignments other than your own child’s game. Commitment involves 1 game per week in the fall and spring, or an equivalent number of games per season, assigned in a manner such as 2 games every other week. Trading game assignments and getting substitutes are OK. Volunteers learn the rules of soccer by attending referee classes before each fall and spring season. New and experienced referees get on the field training as well as classroom sessions. Uniforms are provided. Center referee assignments for new and inexperienced referees start at U8 and U10 games. You will select your level of comfort. Specific information is mailed to referee volunteers from the Referee Administrator. Please fill out the forms included in this mailing and return them to the Referee Administrator immediately. Safe Haven certification is required in order to referee and must be completed on line at www.aysotraining.org before being added to the referee schedule.

4. TEAM PARENT: The communication link between the AYSO Board and the team. A team parent must check the team folder each week at the shed and distribute information to all team members and families. They schedule the half-time refreshments on game day and work with the coach as needed. If you have to miss a Saturday at the field, arrange for someone else to do your job in your absence. The team parent should follow up to make sure other volunteers are signing up for their shifts at safety, concessions, etc.

5. REGISTRATION: Individual willing to help with the registration process for their child’s team, as well as help with at least one registration event in the fall or spring. You will have an opportunity to select which registration event fits your schedule. You can sign up to help at the open registrations, collect forms at the field, collate packets prior to registration. Each job is a 2-3 hour commitment.

6. FIELDS SET UP-TAKE DOWN, FIELD MAINTENANCE PERSON:(2 SUGGESTED PER TEAM) Individuals required to help put up and take down nets, flags and goal posts. They help pick up litter, empty garbage cans and provide rest room cleanup. Some volunteer will be responsible for opening or closing the equipment shed. All of these tasks can be performed on game day. The volunteer is willing to help on an as needed basis to line fields, repair goals, check nets and equipment, and do field repair. Some volunteers will be asked to help line fields one week before the season begins in the fall and spring and/or before the fall 5-A-Side jamboree.

7. SAFETY/INFORMATION: Individual willing to operate the first aid station on game day attends a one-hour safety training class in the fall and keeps first aid supplies and forms in order. Volunteer selects a two-hour shift for their choice in the fall and spring on game day. Volunteer will be at the information tent to help answer questions throughout their shift and assist the Region 149 Board in other tasks as needed. 8. AYSO MESSAGE CENTER: Individual would be willing to pass on messages from the AYSO Message Coordinator during the playing seasons, from the comfort of their own home! They would also direct phone messages received, via e-mail or phone, to the appropriate Board members as needed. There will also be individuals trained to communicate with referees, coaches, team parents, field persons and other volunteers as needed. It is helpful, but not required, if the volunteer has e-mail. Accurate and timely message dissemination is our goal.

9. CONCESSIONS: Individuals willing to work on game day at the concession stand for a two hour shift of your choice or assist with the obtaining of supplies, cleaning or administrative tasks. Sign up information is found in this packet and the newsletter. Volunteers will work a shift in the fall and the spring. You won’t get wet doing this volunteer job!

SE ~ SPECIAL EVENTS: Individual who is willing to help with miscellaneous jobs for the Shoe Swap the first Saturday of the fall and spring season, the 5-A-Side Jamboree in the fall or any other special event sponsored by Region 149.

DE ~ DATA ENTRY: Individual who is willing to enter player information in the eAYSO system. Several hours of time will be needed in the fall and in the spring after open registration. The data will be entered at the computers at Adams Elementary School.

NOTE

You can email the data manager if you need of any lists, such as your team roster or the list of the volunteers on your team, etc.   You will not be provided comprehensive information about all volunteers or all players, but you can be provided contact information about members of YOUR team.

REMEMBER!

The AYSO Board hopes everyone will find an assignment that they can and will fulfill. Everyone should make it fun for himself or herself!

Every player needs to have a volunteer position filled by an adult for this team. Older AYSO siblings are encouraged to referee and enjoy being a volunteer. Be sure to indicate their name as the volunteer rather than the adult. They will need to fill out the proper forms and follow directions identified. There are youth volunteer forms that need to be filled out at the referee training.
