Program Description

The AYSO High School program provides the opportunity for players in the range U16 to U19 a continuing opportunity to play recreational soccer in the AYSO tradition of safe, fun, and fair. Like all AYSO programs, the high school program strictly adheres to the principal that everyone plays. Qualified AYSO referees guarantee well-officiated games, and make every effort to keep the play safe.

For the 2006/2007 AYSO season, requirements for participation in this program are:

  • A birthday that falls in the range 8-1-1989 through 7-31-1993
  • Completion of all registration materials, including:
    • AYSO Region 149 Player Registration Form
    • AYSO Region 149 Registration Card
    • Payment of $55, which covers both the Fall and Spring seasons

Note that it is not a requirement that the player be attending high school. Home schoolers and individuals in the required age range but not currently enrolled in high school are welcome.

Volunteering: The registration cards includes a commitment to fill a volunteer position. At the regional level, AYSO is a 100% volunteer organization; no one gets paid for their effort, which for a core group of people is very considerable. Simply, AYSO could not and would not exist without its volunteers. At the high school level, players themselves can meet the volunteer commitment, such as by becoming trained as AYSO referees. But however this commitment is met, it must be met.

Teams

Teams

Below are the rosters for the two nominal teams. Adjustments may be made after the first game or two if the teams do not seem well balanced. Adjustments may also be made on game days if one team is in need of players.

In forming the teams, an effort is made to divide the players equally in terms of age, skill level, and preferred positions. Once the teams have been formed, a player can switch from one team to the other only if they can find a comparable player -- again in terms of age, skill, and position -- on the other team willing to switch. All such changes are at the discretion of the program coordinator, in consultation with the coaches.

Signing Up

Generally, sign up for the high school program is the same as for any other program. Current AYSO participants are given the opportunity to sign up for the next year during the Spring AYSO season. New players can sign up at the new player registration, in the Spring, and sometimes during late registration before the season begins.

Are there practices?Practices are not usual. They are entirely up to the discretion of the coaches. If you are interested in having practices, the best approach might be to get together a group of players who are interested, and then ask the coaches if one of them would have the time and willingness to run them.
