6U Referee Information

Volunteer Requirements

  • Yearly Volunteer Registration Required (here).
  • Yearly Safe Haven Certification Required (see below).
  • Yearly Concussion Training Required (see below).
  • Referee Job Training Required (special 6U & 8U Coach class (see below)).

Volunteer Equipment Provided

6U Referees are provided a whistle and wrist lanyard. You can pick up the whistle and wrist lanyard on the first game day near the blue referee shed (see fields map for sheds location here).

Quick Details

  • Games are 4 vs. 4 and are scheduled at one time, so each team will show with at least 8 players, split them over two fields, and play both games at the same time. 6U will have practices prior to games (see region rules).
  • No throw-ins for 6U, this is replaced with a kick in.
  • Game are on fields 61 & 62 (here), your field is split into two.
  • Feel free to referee your own team/child. 6U Coaches can be game referees since they have same training as referees.
  • Each team provides one referee for each game.
    • No online scheduling for 6U games, each team needs to provide one referee (another volunteer with the requirements listed above can fill in).

Volunteer Equipment Provided

Quick Details

  • Referee Jersey
  • Black Shorts
  • Referee Socks
  • Card Wallet (yellow & red)
  • Whistle and Lanyard
  • Game Flip Coin
  • Game Day Help Card

You can pick up missing items on the first game day near the blue referee shed (see fields map for sheds location here).

  • Games are 7 vs. 7 (see region rules).
  • Fields 101, 102, & 103 (here).
  • At least one center referees per game, 2 Sideline/Assistant Referees (AR) are optional & 1 Center Referee.
    • The preference is to not have a referee that is potentially biased. That said, if you believe you can be professional and as unbiased as possible, feel free to referee your own team/child.
    • Games are listed in Web Ref for scheduling (here).
    • If no center referee is available, AYSO reserves the right to cancel the game.
  • Each team will supply Game Cards at game (see demo).

12U Referee Information
